As awareness of global warming, deforestation, and water pollution increases around the world, more companies are doing their part to Go Green. FIFS is proud to be a part of this trend.

Creating a Paperless Environment
Several years ago, our Property & Casualty department embarked on a journey to use less paper in our day-to-day transactions. As more of our insurance partners overhaul their computer systems, they will require less and less paper correspondence in the form of applications, change requests, and other documents. During our move to Telford Pike in
2005, we moved all of our file cabinets to the basement as a sign of our commitment to use less paper. Currently, our Life and Health Department is planning how they will also go paperless in the near future.

Recycling our Waste Paper
Today there are many options when it comes to recycling paper. At FIFS, we shred our paper and send it to a local farm to be used for animal bedding. The rising cost of fuel makes it difficult for farmers to plant crops that don’t feed their livestock or create an income from its sale. So paper is a much desired bedding alternative to straw. The paper is also biodegradable, so it can be spread in the fields with animal waste, acting as a fertilizer, while posing no threat to the environment.

FIFS Ads Reflect a Green Attitude
You may have noticed a change in many of the FIFS advertisements lately, which reflect an environmentally friendly message. Our tag line “Smart Choices for a Sound Future” now has a much more global approach than previous versions. Smart Choices not only include responsible financial planning to secure one’s future, but also smart environmental planning to ensure our children inherit a healthy planet.

Using technology to our advantage to reduce the amount of natural resources that we waste, is just one example of how businesses and individuals can make an effort to become more environmentally friendly. The biggest hurdle, however, is making the decision to change our daily routines and lifestyle to benefit future generations.
